When trying to schedule your classes sometimes the course catalog isn’t always the best resource. The technical terms can be vague and confusing and you may feel lost. Sometimes the best resources come from student experience and word of mouth. Below we have compiled a list of key courses in Manship and a basic overview as told from the perspective of a graduating senior. We hope this post makes your transition into your new classes easier.

Brad: What was the course you felt least prepared for?
A: MC 4020 Public Relations Research. The course started off very textbook but became a lot more hands on throughout the semester. PR Research entails a lot of out of class work and is strictly group based. If you are looking to take this course be sure you a lot enough time in your schedule.
S: I agree I think PR Research was more than I anticipated. It requires more work then any other Manship class I have taken up until this point. Just be aware it requires a lot of time.
Brooks: What was the most interesting class you have taken?
A: MC 2551 Typography. I felt that out of all of my studio courses I had the most creative freedom in this class. I enjoyed every project and it felt more like leisure than work. I would recommend taking Meghan Saas. She really cares about her students and is very passionate about graphic design.
S: MC 2015 Visual Communication. I felt like I learned so much in that class and was also given the freedom to create. We used programs like Photoshop and Illustrator. It was really nice to explore the different programs.
Brad: What would be your favorite elective you’ve had?
A: ID 1051 Intro To Interior Design. This class was an unexpectedly fun class. If you’re looking for a class that doesn’t require a lot of outside work but will still keep you engaged, ID 1051 is a great choice. You learn all about color theory, building structure, and a lot of subconscious decisions in natural design.
S: CLST 2090 Greek Mythology. I found this class very interesting because I was able to correlate some movie characters from my childhood with what we were learning. This made learning the material easier since I already had some knowledge of the characters.
Brooks: What Class will you take the most from?
A: MC 2015 is the most beneficial class I’ve taken in my Public Relations career. This class taught me a lot of the basics of Adobe products and has really benefited me in my major.
S: MC 3001 was my most informative class because it was an extremely specific class and I learned a lot about the different kinds of writing used in Public Relations. My professor was very help and gave us good feedback on our writing.
After spending four years at LSU seniors have taken their faire share of courses. Sometimes they are the best people to ask before scheduling a course you know nothing about. Hopefully these first hand accounts will help make scheduling easier.
